Warning for coastal phenomena on the Canary Islands

On February 23, the Government of the Canary Islands has announced a state of alert for coastal phenomena across the archipelago from 20:00, as well as a pre-alert for winds from 15:00. This decision is informed by data from the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other reputable sources, aligning with the Canary Islands’ specific contingency plan for the risks posed by adverse weather phenomena.

Anticipated are heavy swells, leading to extensive rough seas and waves from the northwest reaching heights of three to five meters. In certain open coastal areas to the north and west of the islands, waves may occasionally surge to heights of four to six meters.

Furthermore, the Directorate General for Emergencies has issued an advanced warning for winds across all the Canary Islands from 3pm today.

Given these imminent weather conditions, the government strongly advises the public to exercise utmost caution along the coasts of the Canary Islands. Emphasis is placed on the vital importance of taking self-protective measures.

Please note: It is advised to avoid unnecessary activities along the coast and to take appropriate precautions for your own safety and that of others.
