Calima, yellow alert, weather forecast

Yellow alert for Calima on Sunday afternoon 17 March

From 12:00 noon today, Sunday, March 17, until 8:59 p.m., the Spanish National Meteorological Agency has issued a yellow alert for suspended dust (wind-borne sand or calima) in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
This weather warning means that visibility may be below 3000 m or in any case between 3000 and 5000 m.
It is advisable for residents and visitors to these areas to keep up to date with the latest weather developments on our dedicated weather page. Monitoring the updates can help to make informed decisions and be prepared for any changes in weather conditions.

It is important to exercise caution during outdoor activities and to ensure adequate hydration. The probability of a Calima event is around 10 to 40 %, which indicates a relatively low risk. Nevertheless, proactive preparation is essential to mitigate the potential impact. Therefore, vigilance and adequate hydration are essential, especially in environments prone to Calima events.
