About Me

Writing a diary is like looking at yourself in a familiar mirror, trained to transform simple good looks into beauty or, at worst, to make maximum ugliness bearable.

José Saramago, Cadernos de Lanzarote

My name is Marco, I was born in Bologna, Italy, and have lived all over Europe for study and work.
I worked in Irish youth hostels for almost two years, then spent a few months in Vienna and finally taught at a language school in Seville, where my already great love for Spain was intensified after so much traveling.
After many attempts, I discovered Fuerteventura, and maybe that’s why I love it even more than other islands. My first trip to Lanzarote made me realize how beautiful and unique the Canary Islands are, but Fuerteventura, in my opinion, has something that no one has.
For this reason, I have decided to create OnlyFuerteventura, where I will describe all my travel experiences on this divine island and also everything I would like to discover about it.

About Me and the ocean

As is so often the case, one passion leads to another.
So after Fuerteventura and Lanzarote and the passion for the sea that I have had since childhood, the passion for the oceans and all the meaning they represent, was born.
How could I try to learn to surf without knowing what lies beneath?
And so I decided to start with this oceanography course offered by the Universitad de Barcelona. An exciting seven-week journey through the study of the oceans, the history of their formation, the chemistry of the elements and their composition and, of course , the importance of the oceans for the climate, nature and the environment.

I then also took a course on Large marine ecosystems (LME) offered by various institutions such as the University of Cape Town, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), IW:LEARN, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), UNESCO-IOC and United Nations Environment, and learned about the great importance and value of our oceans.
Not only has my respect for the environment grown, but with the knowledge I have also come to understand and appreciate how much we can use a healthy and intact environment for good.
And the ocean is a great source of wealth when it is kept healthy.
Always remember this when you go to Fuerteventura (but also anywhere else in the world).
