In her exhibition “Simpoiesis”, Cristina Déniz shows the work “Grayscale, 2022”, in which she depicts the shades of gray as a narrative of fire and ash from the forest fires in the Canary Islands. This work goes beyond the mere mastery of the graphite pencil and delves into tragedy and reflection.
In fact, it reveals the importance of tonal values for form and depth that come from the ashes of the forest fires. The emergence of colors from the ashes reflects the power of the fires that devastated the region’s forests and ecosystems.
