Top Instagramable spots in Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is a perfect place for both photographers and Instagram enthusiasts. Here you will find countless places where you can capture the perfect Instagram shot.
From sand dunes, to breathtaking sunsets, through volcanoes, then incredible waves and beautiful views, Fuerteventura has it all.
In this article we’ll guide you through some of the best Instagramable places in Fuerteventura that will make your feed stand out.
The Beaches of Fuerteventura
Few places can rival the sheer beauty of Fuerteventura’s beaches. Here are some that deserve a place on your Instagram feed:
Corralejo Grandes Playas
The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park offers a desert-like landscape right next to the sea. The rolling sand dunes provide a striking contrast against the deep blue sky and are a perfect place for a photoshoot, especially during sunrise or sunset.
Sotavento Beach
Sotavento Beach is famous for its vast, shallow lagoon that appears at low tide. The turquoise water and the fine, white sand create a tropical paradise setting that’s a must-see.
Also, always try to check the times of high and low tide to bring home incredible photos!
Cofete Beach
Remote and wild, Cofete Beach is located on the island’s western coast and is often accompanied by dramatic waves and stunning mountain backdrops. The untouched nature of this beach makes for a powerful Instagram post.
Nevertheless, the dirt road to Cofete Beach can add 1000 points to your Istagram photos.
Guaranteed!
The Mountains and Volcanoes
Fuerteventura’s landscape has been shaped by volcanic activity, leaving behind a rugged and awe-inspiring terrain.
Calderon Hondo
One of the most accessible volcanoes on the island, Calderon Hondo, has a well-marked trail leading to its crater. The panoramic view from the top is Instagram gold.
Pico de la Zarza
Pico de la Zarza is the highest point in Fuerteventura. The hike to the summit is rewarded with breathtaking views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean.
Discovering white places
While Fuerteventura is known for its beaches, the island also offers hidden spots that are less known but equally photogenic.
The Town of Betancuria
Betancuria, the old capital of Fuerteventura, is full of charming streets, historic architecture, and a peaceful atmosphere. The white houses and cobblestone streets provide a beautiful backdrop for photos.
Puertito de la Cruz
This village is the southernmost village of Fuerteventura.
It is the last inhabited place before the Punta Jandia lighthouse.
It is a small white village that you can explore (and where there is a good restaurant where you can stop off if you want)
We have reported about this place in our articles
The Windmills of Fuerteventura
Scattered across the island, traditional windmills add a touch of history and uniqueness to the landscape. On the following list you can find all windmills of Fuerteventura.
Iconic Landmarks to Visit
Fuerteventura is home to several iconic landmarks that are synonymous with the island’s identity.
Faro de Punta Jandia
The lighthouse at Punta Jandia marks the southernmost point of the island. Surrounded by rocky landscapes and wild beaches, it’s a symbol of Fuerteventura’s maritime heritage.
Faro de TostĂłn
Located near El Cotillo, the TostĂłn Lighthouse stands as a sentinel over the rugged coastline. It’s particularly stunning at sunset, with the light casting golden hues over the scene.
Adventure Awaits in Nature’s Playground
For those seeking a bit of adventure, Fuerteventura’s natural playground offers numerous opportunities for action shots.
Surfing spots
The beaches of Fuerteventura are a paradise for surfers. You can catch the action of the waves or the calm beauty of the surfboards lined up against the backdrop of the ocean.
From El Cotillo, El Hierro beach, via Corralejo, then south towards Pared, you can photograph many surfing scenes.
Kitesurfing, windsurfing and wingfoiling spots
The wind always blows on Fuerteventura and wind sports are very popular.
Playa de Sotavento is probably the most beautiful backdrop for Instagram photos but I think you will also find colorful canvases in the sky on many other beaches, such as Corralejo ( to name just one).
If you want to go for the maximum, think about the World Windsurfing Championships in Sotavento between the end of July and the beginning of August

Unusual: streets and monuments
If you only think of beaches and sunsets on your Instagram feed from Fuerteventura, you might be surprised.
Be prepared to stop everywhere, because there’s plenty to photograph here.
The monuments
Fuerteventura has many magnificent monuments to capture on Instagram.
My favorite is Caminos, to which I have also dedicated an article.
In second place is the parque escultorico of Puerto del Rosario.
But in every village you will find many special sculptures that you can capture.
The roads
I have also written an article about the roads of Fuerteventura.
The views here are breathtaking!
First up is the FV-30 to Betancuria.
This is followed by the road that leads through the dunes of Corralejo.
But the most beautiful road is always the one I take when I arrive, of course!
Unforgettable Sunsets and sunrises
The sunsets on Fuerteventura are legendary, as are the sunrises.
No Instagram feed would be complete without them.
Two tips for beautiful sunrises on Fuerteventura:
- it’s necessary to rise early (refer to our weather forecast for specific times in each location)
- recommended to remain on the east coast (such as Puerto del Rosario, Costa Calma and Morro Jable)
For capturing stunning sunsets, the west coast is more suitable (such as El Cotillo, La Pared, Cofete)
My Fuerteventura sunrise and sunset Gallery
Here are some very instagrammable photos I took of sunrises and sunsets on Fuerteventura.
The huge morning sun in Puerto del Rosario and the one that disappears behind the dunes of Corralejo in the evening.
Make a note of the times if you like taking photos.
If you are 5 minutes late in the dunes of Corralejo, you will miss the sunset.
NB: Almost all photos are taken in winter, so the times may be shorter.
In summer, sunrise and sunset might guarantee you a few more minutes
Sunrise (east coast):
Puerto del Rosario
Sunsets (West Coast):
El Cotillo and Corralejo Dunes
The best hours by location
Personally, I always try to enjoy the journey and discover new places.
I get up early in the morning and try to stay as long as possible to capture as many places as possible in different light.
Then it’s also a question of luck.
I stop at the beach,
I eat and sleep.
Then I try to be around people, because the most photogenic things are people or animals
I believe in that.
You can’t photograph a beautiful shadow at midday.
You could take photos of shades when the sunset is approaching, for example on the sand.
There’s fog on the beach early in the morning.
A car kicking up sand on a dirt road.
Then people walking under the streetlights in the evening.
Search and you too will find the perfect photo.
Tips for the Perfect Instagram Shot
Capturing the perfect Instagram shot requires more than just a good location. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Golden Hour: Take advantage of the soft light during the golden hour, just after sunrise or before sunset, for the most flattering photos.
- Composition: Use the rule of thirds to create a balanced composition. Place points of interest at the intersections of the grid lines for a more aesthetically pleasing image.
- Hashtags: Use relevant hashtags like #Fuerteventura, #CanaryIslands, and #InstaTravel to increase the visibility of your posts.
